RAWCS Presentation and Club Citation
Our meeting held Tuesday August 15 was held at Club TOTEM Balgowlah. 19 members and guests attended.
After welcoming our members and our guests, DGN John Campbell, Robert and Anne Thompson and Denise Horan; President Roger handed over the meeting to John Campbell.
John presented a 2022-2023 Citation from Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones to PP Rick van Brugge who accepted on behalf of the club. John explained that this award is given to a club that achieves a significant number of club goals in the year.
Also , a most welcome award, the Presidents Award for Service 2022/23.
Presented to Sue Terry who was away at Changeover in June. Congratulations Sue!
RAWCS Presentation
PP Michael Mead gave a presentation on “What is RAWCS” (Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd) plus outlined his experiences with two overseas projects (Myanmar & Timor Leste) and the many benefits generated by using RAWCS for projects.
Key points:
Roger outlined the recent two successful events; Quiz night and Youth/RYPEN evening. He thanked Lindy and Pascal and their respective teams, together with David and Sally for the Quiz night and the 5 students who presented on the Quiz night.
Afternoon tea at CNB, where the State governor attended: Key members of CNB gave presentations on the social issues in the community.
Key items from District President’s Meeting included Club Goals, NYSF future, Insurance and Club projects, Regionalisation, Domestic Violence Project, Youth projects cooperation discussion at next meeting and District Conference on 15-18th March 2024.
One key requirement is that all projects must receive Board approval and Rick van Brugge will be the contact for the insurance needs.
Fundraising:
1. Quiz Night: Lindy thanks all who assisted. Over 100 people attended and in excess of $6K was raised.
2. Volunteering to give out bibs for City2Surf: Lindy thanked Michael Brent, Bev Yarich, Sue Terry and Michael Mead for joining her.
3. Car Rally: Awaiting available dates from Northern Beaches Council. (end Oct/ early Nov)
4. Golf. The possibility of a fun twilight, 9 hole competition is being investigated. Further work to be completed.
5. In the Bag: Sue Terry outlined the plans and is nominated as our Domestic Violence Project. Details and flyer have been emailed to all members. Further information will circulated.
