Our 31st Golf Day

Balgowlah Rotary's annual charity Golf Day raises funds for local and international charities and Rotary youth projects. Our last two club meetings have been focused on planning and activities for our Golf Day that was to be held on Friday March 26, 2021.

Postponement of the Golf however the Dinner will go ahead.

Due to the horrific weather conditions over the last few days we are unable to have carts for the golf day on Friday March 26, so we are postponing the Golf part of our Charity event to Friday 23rd April.

We will still have the Charity Dinner with Auctions and raffles on Friday 26th March as we would need to pay 50% of food cost if we cancel this date and postpone due to food purchases.

IT IS DISAPPOINTING HOWEVER THE END RESULT WAS OUT OF OUR CONTROL

Our Golf Day and Dinner is the most important fundraising event held by the club.  It benefits our local community programs which have all been greatly impacted over the last year due to Covid19 affecting their operations and effectiveness in many areas together with much greater demands on their facilities and resources.

Our 31st Charity Dinner - the causes that you will assist

Your support at the Dinner, Auctions and Raffles will greatly benefit a number of great local and international  community projects:

Balgowlah Rotary have a policy of supporting specific projects – not merely proving funds to the organisation. This year your support at our Golf Day will directly support the following community projects and number of charities including:

·      Lifeline:  Improvement and extension to face to face counselling facilities. Much greater demand has been experienced in this area of their operations. This will allow more people to be seen and avoid delays in obtaining appointments. This greatly assists many people though crises in their families and lives.

·      Dalwood Spilstead – Young and needy Program (helping school aged children from disadvantaged and underprivileged families with necessities such as school uniforms, excursions and similar school programs).  Balgowlah Rotary is also one of the key benefactors for another program called Child’s Play which provides early intervention for vulnerable and ‘at risk’ children and families. It delivers speech therapy and Clinical Psychology that has been found essential in neuro-development research along with strengths-based family counselling, parent education and volunteer home visiting services.

·      Bear Cottage:Art Therapy. A specialist art therapist is supported by our club – this allows young children to have time to relax and have some enjoyable and moments during their stay. It removes the focus on treatment for many young patients.

Youth programs: Both Balgowlah Boys High and Mackellar Girls Campus select students to attend RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment). It encourages students with undeveloped potential to gain skills in self-esteem, confidence and leadership. Another program is MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) - teams are selected from many schools across Sydney to represent different countries and discussion and debate on key resolutions takes place over 2 days.

MUNA

International Projects:

·       School of St Jude at Arusha Tanzania : The School was established in 2002 by Jemma Sisia from Armidale to provide free education to students in poverty-stricken Tanzania with the help of Australian Rotary Clubs. The school started with 3 students and has now grown to over 1,800 living on campus with students from all over Tanzania.

Rotary Balgowlah provides continuous support to keep their buses running.

·      Shelterbox: Disaster Relief emergency aid and essentials that people need to begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of a disaster.

"Thank you very much for your generous donation to Shelterbox Australia. We rely totally on donations and we truly value your support. Because of you we are able to provide vital shelter and the essentials to return to normality in the aftermath of natural disasters and humanitarian crises."
