 1 October 2020 Sue arranged that all met at the Old Manly Hospital site just outside St Paul's school A group of 7 and set off up Bluefish Drive then walked east along a mostly well-formed track in North Head Sanctuary. Very soon we saw wildflowers of various colours and species     We then saw the 9.2 inch gun emplacements and the tunnels that support them. The area was completed in 1938 and in 2017 the guns were moved to be housed in Puckpunyal in Victoria at yet to be built artillery museum. They fired shells weighing 2 tons and had a range of 27Km (that's the distance from North Head to Parramatta).  The" hole in the wall" We didn't hear any frogs at the pond but all enjoyed a great view of the ocean cliffs along the walk and the relaxed at the Boathouse at Shelly Beach.   As well as ZOOM....  Members can now attend the club and meet over dinner prior to  Rotary meetings in the Wine Room. Whilst ZOOM has helped the club function, a break from the formality of a video meeting is most enjoyable and beneficial. The meeting layout in the Wine Room on Tuesday September 15  Just notify Lindy or Rick that you are coming so that we comply with COVID19 requirements of 10 people max.

One of the most important elements in any club is social interaction and having fun. While ZOOM has undoubtedly helped the club to function in current times; getting together, gentle exercise in the outdoors then meeting and talking over coffee or at a picnic is equally important. PP Sue Terry has assembled a great collection of different and interesting walks in our locality and everyone who participated have thoroughly enjoyed them - so here is a rundown of the those that have occurred.  Sue will advise of the walks that are being planned at future club meetings Warriewood Wetlands Despite a light sprinkle the highly enjoyable walk was on mostly on boardwalk or easy flat paths.  A team of 8 walkers started 'Steptember' in fine form. (actually it was Friday September 4) . Very early in the walk the wildlife was in plain view, a young wallaroo seems not to notice our group and grazed only a few meters away from the boardwalk. Diana HART, OAM: A FORTUNATE LIFE On Tuesday September 1, our club speaker was member PP Diana Hart OAM who gave a interesting and inspiring speech entitled A Fortunate Life . Infront of a small Covid compliant audience and on ZOOM to the remaining members, Diana outlined her life which encompassed not only an amazing and busy Medical career but also both leading or being substantially involvement with major Rotary Health projects. “Rotary has proved a great way to make the most of life”: Quote from her life story in the Manly Daily. Diana was born in Sydney and at age 6 moved from Strathfield to Avoca which had a one teacher school. At a young age she became heavily involved local community activities and sport, playing tennis (her father instigated the construction of the court) and ballroom dancing in the Avoca Community Hall.
